NEW CASTLE, Ind. (April 25, 2018) - Caleb Armstrong's three hour tow east to Mansfield Motor Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio, may not be brief, but it will be pressure-free, as the New Castle, Ind., native is an automatic feature starter for Saturday's Sprint Car World Championship main event.

Armstrong, once a full-time All Star Circuit of Champions competitor who finished third in the final standings in 2017, earned his automatic feature bid by winning Mansfield's Great Lakes Dirt Nationals in August. Awarding a $15,000 top prize, the Great Lakes Dirt Nationals victory also carried a $100,000 potential; Saturday's top prize during the World Championship finale.

“Having an automatic starting spot really takes some pressure off of us, especially since we haven't raced since the Chili Bowl,” Caleb Armstrong stated, driver of the Baker Crop Insurance/Neal Metal Recycling/Armstrong Farms/No. 7C sprint car. “We are all pretty excited to get out there. We made a lot of laps at Mansfield last year, so we have a solid base to work from. It should be a lot of fun.”

Although it has been over three months since Armstrong made a competitive start in any form of sprint car, his last start was a good one, qualifying for the coveted Chili Bowl Nationals A-main in Tulsa, Okla., in mid-January. Driving the BM Motorsports/FK Rod Ends/King Brothers Concrete/Integra Shocks/No. 49ER machine, Armstrong solidified his spot in the big dance by winning his respective B-main. The Hoosier would go on to finish 17th during the 55-lapper.

“The Chili Bowl always offers a great experience. To qualify for the A-main again in 2018 is pretty awesome,” Armstrong said, a former Chili Bowl Nationals preliminary winner. “An accomplishment like that provides a lot of confidence. Although it has been a while since we raced, coming off of a Chili Bowl Nationals A-main start will provide some momentum. Driving a sprint car is a lot like riding a bike; you get back in the seat and you know what to do.”

The Sprint Car World Championship at Mansfield Motor Speedway will kick-off with a full practice round on Thursday, April 26, followed by a preliminary program on Friday, and the $100,000-to-win finale on Saturday, April 28. Despite owning an automatic starting spot, Armstrong is still planning to participate in the entire World Championship program beginning with practice on Thursday.
